Hours, not dollars

Don’t look at the price tag. Look at lifespan instead.

There are things in life that we use for a few hours.

There are things in life that we use for a few months.

There are things in life that we use for years.

How to value your purchases in hours

How many hours do you get out of it?

I have to do the laundry every day. 1 hour a day.

I sleep in my bed every day. 7 hours a day

I wear my shoes out every day. 10 hours a day.

I use my screens a lot. Too many hours a day.

Some things in life don’t see a lot of use.

Fancy shoes or suits.

That fidget spinner from 2017.

That book you’ve been meaning to read but you just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Spend on things that you use a lot

Spend on exercise

I use my running shoes a lot.

Running is my primary form of exercise.

I am okay with spending a lot on shoes. It enables my exercise.

I use my body a lot.

Exercise is also a way of maintaining your body.

Spend on exercise and what makes it possible. Running shoes, gym memberships, funny workout apps – the list is endless.

Spend on family and friends

I spend money on going out with friends and family.

It doesn’t seem to last long. An outing is over in half a day.

Au contraire, mon frère.

Friends and family last a lifetime.

Pick them wisely, and spend wisely on them.

Spend on yourself

We only have one life to live.

We have hopes, dreams, and aspirations.

“I’ll be happy when…” is a dangerous phrase.

Choose contentment instead.

It is cheesy, but happiness is part of the journey, not the destination.

Not everything is about dollars.

Spend on making that journey happen.
